Improving GSM Network Quality

In 2004, Schema applied its Ultima Forté™ product to optimize the RF network quality for a large Indian GSM operator running Nokia equipment. The operator defined two challenging goals for this project: improve network quality by improving network KPIs, and provide the engineering team with the necessary experience for implementing Ultima Forté independently.

With the mission-critical goals of maintaining high quality of service while improving the network’s planning efficiency on a regular basis, the operator turned to Schema to provide a faster, more efficient, more productive and cost effective optimization plan.

Project Objectives
  • Improve network quality using Schema’s automatic Ultima Forté™ by targeting major KPIs
  • Provide the operator’s engineering teams with hands-on experience in using Ultima Forté™ on a live network
Project Results
  • The pre-defined network KPIs were improved by 19%
  • The operator’s RF engineers gained hands-on experience in using Ultima Forté™ on a live network
  • The actual optimization cycle took only 2.5 weeks, enabling the operator’s RF engineers to perform short optimization cycles and maintain their network KPIs at an optimized level on an on-going basis.
Operator Benefits
  • Improved network quality – over 19% overall improvement in KPIs
  • Improved customer satisfaction, reducing customer churn
  • Fast project turnaround and low overhead, allowing for rapid optimization on an on-going basis
  • A user-friendly product, enabling the engineering team to apply it in future network planning and maintenance projects
  • Increased CapEx and OpEx savings by using a mobile measurements based optimization product (the most accurate source for network modeling), allowing for cheaper, faster, and more effective FP
